Discretionary Grants
Introduction:
BenueAID Community Development Initiative is a not-for-profit Indigenous grantmaking and capacity-strengthening organization established in 2024 with a mandate to support local non-profit organizations with funding to improve the well-being and resilience of communities by linking people to sustainable solutions and opportunities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
BenueAID extends Discretionary Grants to offer relief to Benue citizens affected by humanitarian emergencies. These grants are swiftly deployed to address urgent needs among individuals facing humanitarian crises, or for other interventions determined by the organization's Board of Directors.
Goal:
The primary objective of the discretionary grants scheme is to ensure the organization's responsiveness to genuine needs that arise between board meetings and before or after the annual call for concept notes.
Types of Projects Supported by BenueAID:
Projects eligible for discretionary grants must:
- Align with the organization's focus areas
- Clearly define an issue, propose solutions, and identify target beneficiaries
- Be rapid or short-term in nature, with measurable outcomes and tangible impacts on communities
- Have a budget of less than $3000
- Promote the mission of the organization

- Good Governance and Social Development
- Media for Development (M4D)
- Criminal Justice
- Education and Skill Development
- Environmental Sustainability and Agriculture
- Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI)
- Humanitarian Response
- Capacity Building Series
Eligibility:Applicants for Discretionary Grants must be:
- A not-for-profit organisation registered and working in Nigeria for at least 2 years
- Possess verifiable experience in one or more of the Organization’s Priority Areas
- Willing to comply with all the Organization’s internal review processes
